Emirates Steel Arkan (ESA) has announced a significant renewable energy initiative in partnership with Yellow Door Energy. The project involves installing the UAE's largest industrial solar rooftop system at ESA's manufacturing facility in Abu Dhabi Industrial City.
The solar installation will span 203,760 square meters, featuring over 83,500 solar panels. Once operational, it will generate 52.5 megawatts of clean energy annually, equivalent to powering approximately 5,000 homes. This output is expected to help ESA reduce its carbon emissions by 43,000 metric tons per year.[?]
Yellow Door Energy, a UAE-based sustainable energy provider, will handle the project's development, construction, and operation under a long-term lease agreement. The installation is scheduled for completion by the end of 2024.
This initiative aligns with ESA's sustainability goals and supports the UAE's broader environmental objectives, including its Net Zero by 2050 strategic initiative. As the region faces increasing environmental challenges, including extreme temperatures and water scarcity, such industrial-scale renewable energy projects demonstrate the growing commitment to sustainable practices in the Middle East's manufacturing sector.
The project represents a significant milestone in the region's industrial solar adoption and showcases how traditional industrial players can effectively participate in the global transition to clean energy.
