The Middle East's commitment to urban development and creativity remains evident as a new wave of construction and infrastructure projects were granted in March 2024. As we enter the second quarter of the year, contractors are preparing to undertake larger and more intricate projects across the region.

Fadhili Gas Plant in Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province

Aramco has allocated $7.7 billion for the expansion of its Fadhili Gas Plant in Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province.

This initiative aims to boost processing capacity from 2.5 to 4 billion standard cubic feet per day (bscfd), a move aligned with Aramco's strategy to increase gas production by over 60% by 2030.

The project, expected to be completed by November 2027, will also enhance sulfur production by 2,300 metric tons per day. EPC contracts have been awarded to Samsung Engineering Company, GS Engineering & Construction Corporation, and Nesma & Partners, with Samsung assigned specific project packages.

Expansion of Waste Management Services Encompasses Rail Network Sites

Etihad Rail, the entity overseeing the UAE National Rail Network, has enlisted BEEAH Group for waste management services across all rail network sites.

BEEAH, through its subsidiary BEEAH Tandeef, will handle waste management at various locations, including depots, viewpoints, and freight stations. The agreement entails comprehensive waste management services, including collection, transportation, disposal, and recycling.

BEEAH Tandeef will ensure compliance with contractual obligations and address any challenges, prioritizing effective and environmentally responsible waste management. Etihad Rail chose BEEAH for its proven track record and commitment to environmental preservation. This partnership underscores Etihad Rail's dedication to sustainability and aligns with BEEAH's mission to provide innovative environmental solutions. According to both entities' CEOs, this collaboration supports local waste management strategies, promotes sustainable practices, and contributes to a low-carbon future.

Luxury Waterfront Residential Towers in Dubai's Creek Harbour

Emaar has awarded Ssangyong Engineering & Construction Co., a South Korean contractor, a contract to construct two luxury waterfront residential towers in Dubai's Creek Harbour neighborhood.

Known as Creek Waters 1 and 2, the project is anticipated to be completed within 35 months. The scope of work involves building two interconnected high-end residential towers, each consisting of two basement floors and 52 above-ground storeys. With a total of 905 units, the project represents a significant addition to Dubai's real estate landscape. Notably, Ssangyong E&C has previously collaborated with Six Construct, a subsidiary of Belgium's Besix Group, on prestigious projects such as the Atlantis The Royal luxury hotel.

Entertainment Complex in Al Kharj's Al Khuzama

SEVEN, a subsidiary of Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund, has tapped Hassan Allam Holding to construct a sprawling entertainment complex in Al Kharj's Al Khuzama area.

Covering 160,000 square meters, the project aims to enrich the region's entertainment offerings. Notable firms like Gensler and Dar Al Handasah are consultants, with Mace Group handling project management. Bids were submitted in September 2023 after the main contract tender in August.

Modernization Burj Khalifa

Otis Worldwide Corporation has secured a modernization and service contract for the iconic Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building, from Emaar Properties.

In this extensive project, Otis will modernize 34 out of 57 elevators and all eight escalators in the building, in addition to providing service for all units for an extra decade. Key components of the elevator control system will be replaced and updated, including the EMS Panorama system, ensuring real-time remote control for building staff and Otis technicians.

The upgrade aims to enhance efficiency, reduce travel and waiting times, and optimize operations within the building. Otis, which installed the original elevators and escalators in 2010, continues its longstanding partnership with Burj Khalifa, reflecting its commitment to excellence in vertical transportation solutions.

Gas Pipeline Projects in Saudi Arabia

Gas Arabian Services Company has secured a significant engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services contract worth USD 159.3 million from Saudi Power Procurement Company for two gas pipeline projects in Saudi Arabia.

These projects are part of the kingdom's ongoing efforts to upgrade and expand its onshore gas pipeline network. The first contract, valued at USD 68.2 million, is for a gas pipeline project in the Taiba region, while the second contract, valued at nearly USD 91.2 million, covers the Qassim gas pipeline project. Gas Arabian has revealed that the entire project is scheduled to be completed within 22 months.
